Professor Tiffany Barber will give a department colloquium on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 1 PM in Dodd 275.
In this talk entitled “Contemporary Black Women’s Art, Antiquity, and the Liquid Turn,” Professor Barber will share new work that considers how contemporary Black women artists, namely Kara Walker and Simone Leigh, sculpt funerary forms typically associated with antiquity such as the sphinx and the face jug as grave markers for Western imperialism.
An RSVP is requested for a paper that will be circulated in advance of the talk. For more details, check out the events page here.
