New Art History courses coming in Spring 2026

The UCLA Department of Art History will offer two brand new courses this spring.

 

AH 26 Technical Art History: Where the Humanities Meet the Physical Sciences
Tuesdays and Thursday, 9:30 AM – 10:45 AM, Dodd 147
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to lechnical Art History, emphasizing the collaborative teamwork requirec to understand and steward cultural heritage. Students will explore topics such as authentication, the history and chemistry of selected artworks, and community-engaged research in the study of Indigenous material culture. The course concludes with a professional roundtable, connecting academic study to global careers in fields like conservation, curation, and heritage management.

AH 34 Black Aesthetics
Tuesdays and Thursday, 11:0 AM – 12:15 PM, Dodd 147
Through lectures, visual analysis, and case studies that combine art history, Black study, feminist study, and queer of color critique, students will explore how the aesthetic, social, cultural, political, and philosophical meanings of Blackness and its representation in a global context have to come define visual and performing arts of the Black world from 19th century to present
