Bronze Sculpture, Made and Remade
Bronze sculpture has often been studied through questions of style, iconography, and attribution. In this lecture, I take medium as method. Focusing on fragmentary bronzes that were made and remade across centuries during the early first millennium BC, I examine materials, techniques, and repeated acts of working preserved in the objects themselves. I treat making as an ongoing accumulation of material traces visible on the surfaces of Mediterranean bronze sculpture.
