Zoë Ryan is the Director of the Hammer Museum at UCLA. A scholar and curator of architecture and design history as well as contemporary art, Ryan was previously the Daniel W. Dietrich, II Director of the ICA Philadelphia, and the John H. Bryan Chair and Curator of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2014, she curated the second Istanbul Design Biennial, and her books include the edited volumes Living Design: The Writings of Clara Porset (2024) and Designs for Different Futures (2019), as well as In a Cloud, in a Wall, in a Chair: Six Modernists in Mexico at Midcentury (2019) and As Seen: Exhibitions that Made Architecture and Design History (2017). Previously, she has taught at both the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and at the School of Design of the University of Illinois, Chicago.
