Thomas Duncan is an art historian and critic based in Los Angeles. He recently received his Ph.D. from the Department of Art History at UCLA, where he completed the dissertation, “Exactly Wrong”: Failure and Relationality in Andy Warhol’s Polaroids, 1969–1978. His research also focuses on photographic interdisciplinarity in modern and contemporary art, queer strategies of historical return, and the impact of migration on postwar artistic practice. His essays and reviews have appeared in publications such as May Revue, Flash Art, Mousse, and Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles. Recent essays have focused on the art of B. Ingrid Olson, Henrik Olesen, and Milford Graves. In addition to writing, he has curated numerous exhibitions at commercial and institutional venues, including Gagosian, New York, and Bergen Kunsthall, Norway.
